The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is “dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer as a leader in funding research, education, and awareness programs and improving the quality of life for those affected by breast cancer”. The foundation’s main event, The CIBC Run for the Cure is “Canada's largest single day, volunteer-led fundraising event” dedicated to these causes and initiatives. This year’s event took place on Sunday, October 2nd, raising over $30 million nation-wide in 2011. JoinTheLeaders’ (JTL) Lead By Example (LBE) has promoted the event in individual regions in the past and has decided to participate as a national team this year in both Vancouver and Toronto to raise the awareness in the Korean-Canadian community and the areas that we live in.
"On October 2nd, 2011, a few east chapter members participated in 20th annual Run for the Cure. We met 8:30 am in the morning and stretched our legs for one of the most well-known nationwide events in Canada. Despite the freezing winds accompanied by light rain shivering down the streets, we were happy to witness thousands of participants with their Run for the Cure T-shirts waiting around the Wall of Hope. We ran with a group of young adults, seniors, and even with a group of primary school students with a Maple Leafs cap. It was stunning to see hundreds of participants running/walking toward the same goal of a future without cancer. It truly was a great experience" - Jun Woo Park from JoinTheLeaders East Chapter
