On Saturday, October 15th, 2011, the JTL members from the New York City participated in the Annual Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research, which happened at the Central Park in Manhattan. This was an annual event in support of the cancer research at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York under the name of the Canadian hero, Terry Fox. Yongsub Eric Shin, Jungsup Lee, and Sukho Chung successfully completed a 5km run alongside the University of Waterloo team, and demonstrated "Lead By Example" as the first JTL philanthropic initiation in New York.

Testimonial
"It was great to see so many Canadians in New York City all gathered to support the cause started by a national hero. It was a heartwarming, family event where people of all ages participated, including mothers running with strollers and continuously reassuring their young ones that they are almost at the finish line. After the run, the sponsors handed out water, snacks, and fruits, and raffle prizes were given out to participants where the prizes consisted of tickets to watch Canadian sports teams and flight tickets back to Canadian cities. The overall atmosphere of the occasion made me feel back at home, and reminded me of my elementary school days when we participated in Terry Fox runs as a class. For all of us JTL members from the New York City, it was a very meaningful event and I hope in the near future we can expand our NYC member network so we can participate next time as our own JoinTheLeaders team." - Sukho (Danny) Chung from JoinTheLeaders East Chapter
